Firewood Production

Firewood producers typically market their products for primary and secondary residential home heating, campground firewood and specialty hardwood firewood for cook ovens, grills, smokers, etc. The basic steps in firewood production include.

• Raw material purchase (standing trees or processed stems).
  
• Tree processing by hand felling and delimbing or mechanized processor heads. Optional tree/stem debarking for specialty firewood.
  
• Firewood bucking small scale with a chainsaw or large scale with a firewood processor.
  
• Firewood splitting small scale with maul or hydraulic/mechancial log splitter or splitting large scale with a firewood processor.
  
• Firewood conveying equipment to aid in transport and stacking. Cleaning equipment for specialty firewood.
  
• Firewood drying/seasoning either by natural air drying or accelerated drying with dry kilns.
• Packaging/Transporting firewood in bulk containers or small packaging for customer/resellers.
